Knowledgable and Accurate

Cavalry Construction has served as an independent property loss consultant, appraiser and umpire for thousands of insurance claims. Our knowledgeable catastrophe restoration consultants write accurate appraisals which help to settle the insurance claim dispute quickly and often without need for legal intervention.

We are a general contractor as well as consultants and we put real numbers on every project we look at it. This is why we are so trusted by all the major insurance carriers. Our ethics and integrity shine through in every project we do. Most public and independent adjusters write estimates but they are not able to back that estimate up. At Cavalry, we don’t write an estimate unless we know that we can complete the work for that amount. It is for this reason that we are so respected and sought after.

Anytime we put our letterhead on an estimate, we are 100% certain that we can and will complete the work for that amount. Most other firms write down numbers without truly knowing what a project realistically costs. Cavalry has been a general contractor since 1989 and we know what it takes to complete all different types of projects.

Our team has performed loss consulting throughout the U.S. and in several foreign countries. Cavalry consultants are trusted experts in the field and are equipped to serve on a variety of construction projects.

In our travels, we have consulted and constructed all types of projects. Ranging from construction defects to commercial building structures — to even a large-scale explosion that spread building debris across the property — we’ve seen it all and have the collective experience in place to accurately estimate and advise on any type of property loss.

What types of losses has Cavalry consulted on?

Cavalry can assist in determining scope, cost, schedule, length of restoration, and more.

What’s the difference between an independent adjuster and a loss consultant?

An independent adjuster is an independent consultant hired by insurance companies to investigate, assess, and settle insurance claims on behalf of the insurer. Independent adjusters are folks that are adjusting the claim.

A loss consultant is also someone working as an independent contractor for an insurance company, but their role is more specifically defined. For example, when we act as consultants, the Cavalry team is scoping and estimating the cost associated with the repair to a building.

It’s good to note that some parties use the term “loss consultant” erroneously when they are in actuality adjusting the claim. We sometimes see public adjusters (adjusters that represent the property owner for a fee) call themselves loss consultants. We do NOT do this.

What should I expect during the consultation and assessment process?

During the consultation and assessment process, a Cavalry consultant has been hired by the insurance company to scope and cost out repairs necessary for a building after a loss. We provide these costs in real, tangible contexts. That means when we produce the estimate, we are saying that we can and will do the work for the amount of our estimate.

How long does the loss consulting process typically take?

That depends on the size and complexity of the loss. In most cases, we can inspect, scope, and estimate the repair costs within two weeks.

Will Cavalry handle all communication with my insurance company on my behalf?

As consultants, we are hired by an insurance company, which means we communicate directly with that company and its representatives. Depending on the circumstances, we may not communicate with the property owner whatsoever.

Appraisal and Umpire Work

Appraisal Services

We are a trusted consultant for insurance companies because we use our extensive knowledge in construction to properly evaluate a loss using only the facts.

We have completed thousands of appraisals for many different insurance companies and law firms. We have a proven track record of settling appraisals before an umpire even gets involved. We work off the facts and always write an estimate that reflects that.

In certain cases, an umpire can’t be avoided and Cavalry has substantial experience in umpire work as well. With our extensive insurance, construction, and loss adjusting experience, we are often called by appraisers and property owners to act as umpires during the insurance appraisal process. Cavalry is always fair, impartial, and just like in our appraisal work, our umpires work only off of the facts.

FAQ

Why hire a clerk of the works?

A clerk of the works will monitor a job site on behalf of an insurance carrier to ensure the service provider producing the work on the site is doing so within scope, budget and on schedule.

Can a clerk of the works be involved in post-construction activities, such as final inspections and project closeout?

A clerk of the works may be involved in final inspections and project closeouts. However, they are not typically used to comment regarding quality or correctness of work and rather the cost of the work and timeliness.

How does a clerk of the works monitor and document construction progress?

A clerk will visit the site daily to ensure there are the proper crews carrying out the current necessary function of the project. For example, they will confirm the structure has been framed, then insulation, electrical, plumbing, etc. before the wallboard is installed.

How does a clerk of the works ensure that materials and workmanship meet the specified requirements?

A clerk does not typically ensure workmanship. This is more of a budgetary and scheduling function.
